Welcome To My First Blog!

First I would like to introduce myself for those that may not know who I am. My name is Jasmine C White and I have been learning about investing for the past 12 years (I know I'm old lol). It all started when I read the book "Rich Dad Poor Dad" when I was 18. (I URGE you to read this book because it really changed my life.)
After reading the book, I immediately saved $6000 through the method of Paying Yourself First, which is the very first topic of my financial literacy course. It took me approximately 6 months to achieve this goal. At the time I was a bank teller and no matter what, I did not care who requested to borrow money, or if I wanted to purchase anything, or even if I was hungry. I WOULD NOT TOUCH MY SAVINGS #discipline
Shortly after, I purchased my first Certificate of Deposit with Ally Bank. The term was for 11 months and I earned approximately $67 in interest. I was excited to watch my money grow on its own due to compound interest.
I was ready for more investing! During that time I had saved an additional $4,000. Here I am 19 years old with $10,000!! I FELT RICH! But I was hit with reality when I visited a Fidelity Investment Branch in New York City and an employee whom I was speaking with literally held in his laughter when I told him that I had $10,000 to invest. In order to be serviced at a Fidelity one has to have at least $50,000!!! He literally spoke to me in the doorway of the Branch, couldn't even get a seat lol
I had never been so discouraged in my investing life. So I did what any 19 year old with $10,000 would do. I BLEW IT! Designer everything even down to the socks! But I was broke after the money was gone. I am talking about real broke because at this time we lived in a shelter. After realizing how big of a mistake I made, I had to start all over. Back at square one! This was the start of my financial career and now I swing trade (which we will talk about on a later post).
I created this blog because I personally feel that millennials do not have enough outlets to learn about personal finance, nor do we have enough places to find financial tips. So just like Mahatma Gandhi said "be the change you want to see." Well here I am! My goal is to spread as much financial knowledge as humanly possible. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. I look forward to passing on my knowledge to you :)
